What are the refractory materials used in blast furnaces?

Blast furnace is an equipment used in the metallurgical industry to reduce iron ore to produce pig iron. It is affected by extremely high temperatures and chemical corrosion. Therefore, blast furnaces need to use various refractory materials to maintain their high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and wear resistance. The following are some common refractory materials used in blast furnaces:

1. Hearth lining materials: high alumina bricks, chrome bricks, magnesia chrome bricks, etc.

2. Hearth bricks: hearth bricks, cast iron blocks, magnesia carbon bricks, etc.

3. Graphite electrode: The electrode on the top of the blast furnace is used to energize and generate arcs.

4. Carbon bricks: Ice iron used in the lower part of the blast furnace hearth and shoulders to help the reduction process.

5. Quartz sand: used as compensation and protection material for blast furnace cooling staves.

6. Fire clay: used for lining, patching and caulking inside blast furnaces.

7. Ceramic pipes and accessories: used for the transportation and discharge of high-temperature gases in blast furnaces.

8. Refractory casting material: used for the casting and repair of blast furnace copper nozzles, furnace noses, hearths and other parts.

It should be noted that the specific type and proportion of refractory materials used will vary depending on different blast furnace models, process requirements, operating methods and other factors. Therefore, when using refractory materials, appropriate refractory materials should be selected according to specific conditions and relevant operation and maintenance procedures should be followed to ensure the normal operation of the blast furnace and extend its service life.
