Why high chrome brick can be used in the glass kiln to enhance the service life?

2024-06-14

The application of high chrome bricks in glass kilns is mainly due to their excellent corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance. The following are some key points of the application of high chrome bricks in glass kilns:

Strong corrosion resistance: High chrome bricks contain a high proportion of chromium trioxide (Cr2O3), which gives the brick body a strong resistance to slag corrosion, especially in resisting chemical corrosion of molten glass. Compared with traditional magnesia-chrome bricks or other types of refractory materials, high chrome bricks can better withstand the complex chemical reactions and physical wear generated during the glass melting process.

Stable high temperature performance: The melting temperature of glass can be as high as 1500°C or more. High chrome bricks can maintain good shape and performance due to their excellent high temperature structural stability, and are not easy to deform or damage under long-term high temperature operation.

Use in specific parts: In glass kilns, high chrome bricks are often used in key parts such as flow holes, end walls, and corner bricks of charging ports. These locations are directly in contact with high-temperature glass liquid or subject to severe thermal stress, and the performance requirements of refractory materials are extremely high.

Alkali erosion resistance: Especially in high-temperature alkali-free glass kilns, high-chrome bricks are used to protect the kiln from damage by alkaline glass liquid due to their resistance to alkaline erosion. Compared with zirconium-containing materials, high-chrome bricks can resist alkali erosion 5 to 10 times.

Extended service life: Due to the above excellent properties, the use of high-chrome bricks can significantly extend the service life of the glass kiln, reduce maintenance and downtime, and thus improve production efficiency and economic benefits.

Special application: In some soda-lime glass tank furnaces, the application of high-chrome bricks has gradually increased, not only limited to the flow hole, but also extended to the end wall and other specific areas, which shows that the adaptability and reliability of high-chrome bricks have been recognized in the glass manufacturing industry.

In summary, the application of high-chrome bricks in glass kilns reflects its high performance and long life characteristics under extreme working conditions, and is one of the important refractory materials to ensure the continuity of glass production and product quality.
